MRH Information for Property Managers

All Multifamily Rental Housing Properties will need the following documents to apply for a new or renew the Occupational Tax Certificate (Business License): 

Business License/Occupational Tax Certificate Requirements:

  1. Occupational Tax Certificate Application
  2. Property Manager Certification 
    (Property Manager must be physically located on the property or assigned to the property.)
  3. Certificate of Compliance (issued by the City for completion of all code required inspections)
  4. Certificate of Insurance

Business License Application

All businesses located in the City of Sandy Springs are required to hold a valid Business Occupational Tax Certificate, often referred to as a business license, and pay Business Occupational Taxes. The Certificate is valid for one calendar year and must be renewed annually. You can find the application and more information by visiting the Sandy Springs Revenue Department page.

Code Compliance Certificate

The City of Sandy Springs will award a Certificate of Code compliance to a property once it has passed all required MRH inspections (listed below). This certificate is required to apply for the business license/ Occupational Tax Certificate.

Required inspections summary:  

    City of Sandy Springs:  

  • Fire Marshal (Annual)
  • Code Enforcement (Annual)

   Third Party Inspections:

  1. Certified Building Inspector (CBI) (Annual)
  2. Fire Alarm System (Annual)
  3. Fire Suppression System (Annual)
  4. Private Fire Hydrant (Annual)
  5. Fireplace and Chimney (Annual)
  6. Mechanical Trade (Five years)
  7. Electrical Trade (Five years)
  8. Plumbing Trade (Five years)

   Property Owner Inspections:

   9. Dryer Vent Cleaning Log (Annual)

Property Manager Certification

All property managers must undergo yearly training on the new ordinance presented by the MRH task force and receive a certificate of attendance (Property Manager Certification). This certificate is required to apply for the business license/ Occupational Tax Certificate. Property owners and other staff members are encouraged to attend this training, but it is not a requirement.

  2. Tuesday, March 12, 2024 @ 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm (Training ended)
    (This was the final makeup session offered to complete the property manager certification required for 2024 Business License).
