Adding \\encrypt\\ to the subject line of an email notifies the City's Barracuda email filter know that you are sending sensitive information that needs to be protected with encryption. Instead of your recipient receiving your email, they'll get a notification from Barracuda that they have a secure email waiting for them. This notification will contain a link to a portal where they'll need to create an account and log in to retrieve your email. The account creation process is streamlined to be as frictionless as possible. Your recipient can choose to either view your email within the Barracuda portal or download it and open it in their email client.

Before you send an encrypted email, it's always good to notify the recipient before hand. With phishing emails being common place these days, they're just as likely to consider a notification from Barracuda as something malicious rather than a legitimate email! You might also want to remind the recipient that if they reply to your email with a copy of the sensitive information in the thread, and don't encrypt it their side, the information will no longer be protected.  If you have any questions or want to know more, feel free to send an email to security@sandyspringsga.gov.
