Mount Vernon Corridor Masterplan
Project Description:
The Mount Vernon Highway Corridor Improvements will improve vehicular and pedestrian safety from the Sandy Springs Library to the Sandy Springs MARTA Station. A multi-use path will be constructed on the south shoulder of Mt Vernon Hwy, and six-foot-wide sidewalks will be constructed on the north. New turn lanes will be added to the following intersections: Glenridge Drive, Barfield Road, Crestline Parkway, Peachtree Dunwoody Road, and Perimeter Center West. Traffic signal upgrades will also be included. Construction is estimated to take approximately two years to complete.
The Mt Vernon Corridor Multi-use Path is included within the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) program approved by voters in Sandy Springs and Fulton County as part of the T-SPLOST referendum passed in November 2016. This project is in alignment with the City’s adopted Bike/Pedestrian Plan, Comprehensive Plan and Last Mile Connectivity initiatives. The path will also provide connectivity to the proposed multi-use paths on Peachtree Dunwoody Road and Path 400.
Funding Sources: TSPLOST and Perimeter CID.
Prior Public Meetings:
WHAT: The City of Sandy Springs hosted a Public Information Open House on the Mt Vernon Highway Multi-use Path Project. The meeting provided the community the chance to review proposed concepts, ask questions and provide input. There was a presentation with a short question and answer period, followed by the open house.
